The junior high school students’ speaking ability is an important skill to be improved to make the junior high school student to conduct communication directly. In line with that, teacher’s strategy in preparing junior high school students to be able to convey their ideas, though, arguments, and other things that they have in their mind are highly expected. Hence, speaking ability becomes an important goal in the teaching and learning process. Therefore, the junior high school students’ speaking ability should be continually developed by engaging the junior high school student in more interactive speaking activities. The development of interactive speaking activities should be in order to facilitate the junior high school students to be able to develop their speaking ability that has relation to the context and the aim of communication. However, some teachers face difficulty to find strategies to conduct speaking activities in the classroom. Whereas, having a good speaking ability is a success key to effective classroom communication.
According to the challenges above, teachers need to make an appropriate strategy to be applied to involve the junior high school students in the speaking activity. The telling story becomes one of the ways in classroom teaching activities to learn a new language. This activity refers to introducing vocabularies of the new language by constructing them in the form of a story. Moreover, junior high school students can also easily share their stories with people around them. Therefore, it is advantageous to apply an interactive storytelling strategy to improve the speaking ability of junior high schools' students.
