“I Know English… So Why Can’t I Speak It?”

Ditulis oleh: Administrator, 09-07-2025

Do you ever feel like you can read, write, and understand English just fine—but when it’s time to speak, your mind goes blank? You’re not alone.

The truth is, speaking is a totally different skill. Reading and listening are passive—you take in information. But speaking? It’s active—you have to think and talk in real-time. No pause button!

Here’s why speaking feels so hard, even if your English is “good”:

  1. You haven’t practiced speaking enough. Just like you can’t run a race you never trained for, you can’t expect fluency without actually talking.
  2. You’re not used to saying tricky words or phrases out loud. It’s one thing to read a word, another to say it smoothly.
  3. Speaking involves people—and nerves. Talking to others (especially in groups or formal settings) adds pressure, which can throw you off. Keep in mind that spoken English has rhythm and flow. It’s often more relaxed, with different pronunciation and intonation than what you see in books.

So, what’s the fix? Speak more. Out loud. With others or even just to yourself. Make mistakes, laugh at them, and keep going. You already have the knowledge. Now it’s time to use it.
